They will give you the advantages and disadvantages of the types of epoxy coating. We give you the 2 basic type of epoxy coating.

3 Types of Epoxy Flooring Coating

  1. Solvent Borne Epoxy

This type of epoxy is the traditional one, first used in the industry before the kinds are introduced. It is mixed with solvent, which is a high amount organic compound that dries up and evaporates every time the epoxy is applied. It leaves a hard epoxy coating on the floor.

It has built-in cohesiveness as one if its major advantages. You can also apply it into thin film across the floor’s surface. However, it is said to be highly volatile. When you apply it yourself, you should be aware that its vapors can be very toxic when you inhale too much of it. One thing you should consider about solvent borne epoxy is that it’s also highly flammable.

  2. Waterborne Epoxy

This type of epoxy used water as its main carrier and is water soluble, unlike solvent epoxy. This is said to be safer because it’s not as reactive as the solvent based epoxies. When you apply, you can easily it in thick or thin coats and just clean with water. It’s used for hydrostatic pressure applications. It’s safer, yes but it also has impacts on the environment.

  3. 100% Solids Epoxy

The last type of epoxy is called 100% solids epoxy is because it’s pure epoxy and doesn’t have fluid carrier. Fortunately, this epoxy doesn’t have environmental problems that waterborne and solvent-based have, however the application is harder.

Like mentioned, it doesn’t have a fluid carrier so its viscosity is quite high to applying it on the floor is challenging. You won’t be able to apply thin films or coats. But then again, it is adaptable and versatile in its applications. Try applying it on somewhere else before using it on your concrete floor.

Epoxy Coating Choices

The following are some of the coating choices you can choose for flooring:

Self-Dispersing Epoxy
